A ball etches the sand, pulled invisibly by concealed means. This quiet, interactive installation can create beautiful sand etchings for the beholder&#8217;s enjoyment and for spiritually inclined meditations.<\/p>\n<p>H\u00e9bert conceived this unique and original idea of adapting his very personal algorithmic process to draw in sand in 1997. He was inspired by Japanese Zen gardens and by a the book <em>Designing the Earth: The Human Impulse to Shape Nature<\/em> by David Bourdon. He built several sand installations, in collaboration with David Bothman.
