Wagenknecht modified a Roomba to paint on canvas as it enacts custom algorithms. As the Roomba maneuvers around the canvas, Wagenknecht reclines nude. The Roomba relentlessly attempts to navigate around her body because it is designed to continue on a trajectory until the entire area has been mapped by its algorithm. The result is a void in the shape of a female form surrounded by the blue strokes of the robot.

The paintings reference Yves Klein’s Anthropométries in which he directs nude female models, who he referred to as “living paintbrushes,” to press their pigment-covered bodies against canvases in front of an audience. In contrast, Wagenknecht abandons the spectacle of the objectified female nude in favor of drawing attention to what is absent. There is no performance or process documentation on display and the female form is only acknowledged in the negative space of the paintings.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]More works

Alone Together (2017)
Liberator Vases (2016)
Still Alive (2016)
While You Were Sleeping (2016)
Solitaire and Cheat Codes (2015-2017)
Glass Ceiling (2014)
Black Hawk Paint (2007-)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”14806,14805,14793,14792,14791,14790,14789″ img_size=”medium” css_animation=”fade-up” css=”” hover_effect=”opacity”][/vc_column][vc_column css_animation=”fade-up” width=”1/3″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″][vc_custom_heading text=”Alone Together (2017)” use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”” font_size=”16″ text_align=”left” font_weight=”600″][vc_column_text]To create this series of mechanically assisted paintings.
