And you found this?
Lieser: Yes.
Molnar: So this is very expensive to sell. Because there are plotter drawings of that date, but this picture is out of that category, because there is only one.
Lieser: But tell me, how is the picture made? That is, there were numbers that the computer calculated for each box?
Molnar: The computer calculated and printed out the numbers of the colors and I colored it by hand.
Lieser: That’s why! You can see that it’s done by hand, but I couldn’t understand what it has to do with “bull”. That is, under each of these boxes is a number?
Molnar: A number, yes.
And you happened to find the picture by chance, and I had it here by chance. I didn’t want to throw it away, so I forgot about it.
Lieser: Yes, at the bottom of the heap I found it. If anybody had seen it and they hadn’t known of you career and development, of “Bull” etc. (the information on the back of the picture) they would have no idea of the meaning.
Molnar: You should keep looking. There is also a second picture where only the numbers can be seen and I just started coloring. Then I stopped. With Honeywell-Bull we decided, I have to find something simpler, because it doesn’t work that way….
Lieser:…Too tedious?
Molnar: Yes.
And then I found Orsay, the data center from the University of Paris. There was already better material for me. But with Honeywell-Bull it was easy because I had a very important great friend, the composer Pierre Barbaud, he made music with computers and he was kind of accepted at Bull. The company was just called Bull at that time, Honeywell came later. Pierre Barbaud was a good friend. He helped me stick my nose in a little bit too, but that was a terrible chore for me.
Lieser: I wouldn’t want to do that either. All those little boxes, how tedious!
Molnar: Yes exactly, that’s where I stopped it.
Lieser: Now I understand. That’s good, because one can’t understand that when one sees the picture. One dosen’t know how it was done, because you wrote on it that it’s not done by hand but by computer. However, one can kind of see, there’s hand work involved.
Molnar: Both are true. Und das haben Sie gefunden?
Lieser: Ja.
